Ontario has a thing for accrediting driver's schools, such that if you go to a 40-hour course at an approved place you only have to wait 8 months between passing the written test for your G1 and attempting a road test to pass into G2. (And then you always have to wait a year between getting G2 and testing into being fully licensed.) I'm also going to start out real small with my mom in the passenger's seat while I very carefully get the feel of the car in a big parking lot by our house when it's empty, before I go anywhere near a driving instructor who's less aware of the fact that I find cars Somewhat Anxiety-Inducing.
