AKA "Things I have read and bookmarked on AO3 that I would reread and can in good conscience recommend to others". An eclectic variety of fandoms, ordered alphabetically. Heed whatever warnings are on the fics in addition to my rec paragraphs.

The Adventure Zone: Balance

An Umbrella Term, by brushstrokesApocalyptic. An AU where Lup is more capable of interacting with the world outside the Umbrastaff, and this results in Angus McDonald investigating the mysterious movements of said umbrella. Then everything spirals rather wonderfully out from there, although things ultimately end up in a place not far off from canon. 14 chapters, 77,460 words. Disclaimer: I beta-read this. Also Brush is my sibling.

Disworld

Mister Vimes'd Go Spare!, by Lunik. His Grace Sir Samuel Vimes dies, and in the decades afterwards ends up deified as the God of Coppers. He is not best pleased by this. One chapter, 4,836 words.

Harry Potter

An extract from "The Witch’s Guide to Pregnancy, Birth, and Baby Care", by Alarica Rosier. Chapter Nine: What if my Baby is a Squib?
, by Nineveh_uk. A look into how the Wizarding World, specifically Purebloods, likely treats Squib children, made creepingly horrifying by the obvious subtext about killing the quote-unquote "defective" children with a veneer of "oh they're just so fragile of course they die in accidents or to disease all the time so sad very sad now have another baby to salve your woes". Fantasy ableism but also, y'know, obvious parallels to the treatment of real disabled children. Very creepy, very good. One chapter, 1,894 words.

Wisteria Walk, by Talis_Borne. Takes Rowling's discarded idea that maybe Dudley would have a witch daughter and runs with it, from the point of view of his OC wife Ann. Contains Petunia and Vernon being awful, the new generation of Potters being excellent, and reconciliation between Dudley and Harry. One chapter, 11,341 words.

Mass Effect

Can a Unit Lie?, by tonystarking. The lines of dialgoue where Shepard asks why Legion repaired his mobile platform with their old N7 armor, told from Legion's perspective. Pretty much just Legion being introspective about why he did it. One chapter, 320 words.

Voltron: Legendary Defender

Cabin Fever, by brushstrokesApocalyptic. Written post-Season 1 but pre-everything else, this is a take on what Pidge might have done while separated from the team. Made very and increasingly AU by everything that happened in Voltron after its publishing, and this will probably be the only Voltron fic I ever rec, but it's a fun fic from a more innocent age. One chapter, 6,274 words. Disclaimer: I beta-read this. Also Brush is my sibling.

Crossovers

His Dark Materials/Welcome to Night Vale(/Fail_Fandomanon RPF)

Republic of Heaven Community Radio
, by ErinPtah. A monster of a 7(/9)-part series where WTNV is set in the present day equivalent of Lyra's World, with shittons of worldbuilding that I don't know enough about HDM to tell how much is canon, how much is general fanon, and how much is Erin-originated. Ignores (almost?) everything WTNV after the defeat of StrexCorp, but it was already a fusion AU so what's some more AUness. Series wordcount clocks in at 567,929 over 9 parts, but the majority of that comes from part 1 (He Says He Is An Experimental Theologian), at 181,948 words over 32 chapters, and part 4 (A Blinking Light Up On The Clouded Mountain), at 313,788 words over 52 chapters. Part 8 is a bunch of WTNV AUs and only chapter 5 is from this AU, and part 9 works fine as a standalone HDM fic about Lyra and Will but is canon backstory for this AU.
